Meeting Planner & Member Services Director

Administers and coordinates annual meetings, seminars, and conventions for the organization. Involved with site selection, registration, participant accommodations, event planning, vendor relations and partnership programs. Works with staff and volunteers to coordinate scheduling of educational programs and industry events throughout the year.

Initiates member recruitment and retention strategies. Administers service programs for members. Responsible for updating member records and is responsible for the integrity of the membership database/association management system (Personify). Implements member retention and recruitment efforts. Develops regular reports on membership metrics. Recommend/develop/implements new member programs and services. 

May include travel to member offices during regular office hours.  May include evening or weekend travel for conventions, and special events or meetings.  Most meetings and conference calls are in the evening and 2-3 weekends per year for conventions/special meetings or education events.  Compensation time is given for weekend work.

Other duties may include answering the main phone line, greeting visitors, and performing routine clerical tasks. Must be proficient in communication skills, verbal and written.  May be responsible for mass email distribution to membership or prospective members and meeting attendees.

Experience in meeting planning.

Experienced in working with volunteers.

Some travel requirements.

Some weekend and evening work required.

The Arkansas Optometric Association (ArOA) represents doctors of optometry across the state of Arkansas and student doctors of optometry across the country. Our membership maintains a consistent 80% capture rate of practicing optometric physicians in the state. Student doctor membership is made up of candidates enrolled in accredited schools of optometry that call Arkansas their home state or those who are interested in moving to Arkansas to practice. The ArOA follows a strategic plan to map out our future and attain our goals as an organization. Our mission is to preserve, promote, and advance Optometry in Arkansas. We stand as the voice of optometry and eye care through government relations; focus on delivering essential knowledge to the Optometric team from paraoptometric staff to doctors of optometry; provide benefits and services to support member success; and increase awareness of eye health, vision care, and Optometric Physicians. We are recognized for the dedicated leadership advancing the profession, eye health, and vision care since 1906. We host two annual conventions per year, virtual education events, regional membership meetings, and interest group meetings.... We host a leadership development training and many of our state members are involved in national and regional optometric organizations as strong, committed volunteers. Working with partners of optometric care, our relationships with industry representatives and other health groups are strong.
