As the Director in this role, you will contribute to multimedia and publishing services for a mission-based global organization. Your oversight of our libraries (OnePetro, PetroWiki and Energy Stream), peer-reviewed journals, ebook development and sales, and other multimedia products such as SPE Live and SPE Tech Talks will ensure timely, cost-effective production and delivery of high-quality technical content to members and other key stakeholders across various platforms.
Your leadership will result in developing the strategy and monetization of future multimedia products that align with the strategic and financial goals of SPE. Your strong collaboration skills will bring in new cross-functional concepts and strategies within the Communications department and globally with other directors across SPE’s offices.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE IN THIS ROLE
Lead a dynamic team within the multimedia and publishing departments directly supervising 3 managers with 14 indirect reports
Develop a staff team that executes core operational publishing functions, including but not limited to project management, publication planning, writing, editing, quality assurance, production coordination and distribution, and management of volunteer editorial committees
Create and execute a multimedia publishing strategy to ensure on-time delivery and meeting with our high standards
Oversee the creation, delivery, and monetization of multimedia content, including live-streamed and on-demand videos (e.g., SPE Live and Tech Talks), podcasts, e-books, and other digital media
Champion the implementation and rollout of new digital and virtual initiatives and capabilities resulting in new revenue streams
Develop relationships with external partners, including other professional societies, freelancers, and technology vendors
Implement and refine book publishing processes as appropriate in coordination with the SPE Books Development Committee and staff colleagues
Act as the staff liaison for the SPE Board Committee on Technical Content
Manage the unit and program budgets, including forecasting, tracking, and reporting on expenses

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERTISE
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Business, Communications, or a related discipline
10+ years of experience in managing publishing services and staff including direct experience with journals, digital publishing formats, and other multimedia products ideally at a professional association
Demonstrated understanding of and experience with the following:
Using new and emerging technologies for multimedia production and publishing
Managing the publishing process from concept to launch to distribution and to marketing/promotion
Scholarly publishing principles and business processes
Creating, identifying, and capitalizing on products to reach new audiences and generate new revenue streams
Multi-channel publishing vehicles
Successful implementation of digital transformation projects and/or moving ‘analog’ products to digital or hybrid products in a commercially viable way is a plus
Excellent writing and editing skills
