The National Association of Home Builders of the United States (NAHB) is searching for an attorney to join its friendly, hardworking staff. The successful candidate will: assist with developing litigation strategies on a variety of housing issues; manage outside counsel; review federal legislation that impacts housing; present educational programs to members; conduct legal research on a wide variety of housing topics; attend industry coalition meetings; and craft amicus briefs for filing in federal and state courts. This attorney will interact with staff and members at all levels of the association, providing legal research or information primarily but not exclusively on the Administrative Procedure Act, specific environmental issues (i.e., climate change, Clean Air Act, stormwater, etc.), and housing finance questions.
The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant legal experience, a demonstrated ability to analyze, research and write, and the ability to balance multiple assignments. Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, a demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a team setting, and a willingness to travel on an occasional basis. Other requirements:
Understanding of the Administrative Procedure Act notice and comment process,
Experience with environmental laws that impact land development and home building,
Experience working with trade associations and ability to work in a team environment,
Strong communication and presentation skills,
3-5 years of relevant legal experience,
C. Bar license or the ability to obtain.
