NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, is seeking a Director of Federal Affairs to be responsible for policy development and advocacy before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies. Working with the Senior Vice President for Government Affairs, the Director of Federal affairs will develop and strengthen critical relationships with elected Senate and House members and their staff, work with NAIOP’s public policy committees to identify issues of importance to commercial real estate, and represent NAIOP’s federal affairs team at local NAIOP chapter events, coalition meetings, and with other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have recent experience on Capitol Hill or in a government affairs capacity.
Responsibilities:
Working with the Senior Vice President for Government Affairs, represent the commercial real estate industry before Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies and their staff.
Establish and maintain close relationships with Members of Congress, Hill office staff, and relevant administrative agencies.
Develop and implement legislative strategies designed to advance the policy goals of the association.
Staff the assigned Government Affairs subcommittees working closely with subcommittee chairs
Produce written advocacy materials, including government affairs blogs, magazine columns, and issue briefs for internal and external audiences, as needed.
Effectively communicate and promote NAIOP positions and priorities to a wide range of constituencies.
Assist with the development and coordination of the annual Chapter Leadership and Legislative Retreat program.
Assist the Senior Vice President for Government Affairs in coordinating activities with respect to the Association's PAC (NAIOP-PAC), including fundraising efforts for the PAC.

Position is based in Washington D.C.; with periodic meetings at corporate headquarters in Herndon, VA.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree
4-7 years of experience on Capitol Hill or government affairs preferred.
