The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) in Arlington, VA, a professional scientific society, is recruiting for a Research Associate. The Research Associate plays a key role in AAPS’ revenue generation. The Research Associate has two primary functions: developing market-scanning capacity for AAPS related to its audience and stakeholders, especially its international audience; and pursuing grants for AAPS from its corporate partners. The Research Associate is part of AAPS’ Corporate Engagement Department, which is responsible for generating revenue through the cultivation and management of relationships with AAPS’ corporate partners. The Research Associate also works closely with all other AAPS departments as needed to ensure smooth engagement and workflow. The position reports to the Senior Director of Corporate Engagement.
The role’s main functions are:
Support AAPS with relevant market and pharmaceutical industry and audience research; identify and propose additional prospecting approaches and segmentation improvements, especially with regard to international opportunities
Support AAPS’s relationship with its audience, corporate partners, and other stakeholders with to optimize marketing and communication messaging, strategies, and tactics
Identify, prioritize, and complete grant and funding applications relevant to AAPS’ scope of work
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Analyze pharmaceutical market in order to match AAPS opportunities to audiences, corporate partners, and stakeholders.
Report on analysis and advises on strategy and tactics for pursuing revenue for various products and programs.
Develop an understanding of particular regional markets around the globe that AAPS may enter.
Research, submit, and manage proposals to grant programs offered by corporate partners, government authorities such as the FDA, and other sources.
Participate in discussions to determine AAPS’ scientific direction; assists in supporting AAPS’ Business Development and Partnership Committee and Scientific Advisory Committee.
Qualifications:
Excellent project management experience, including the ability to multitask and handle multiple projects and deadlines.
Excellent experience with web-based customer relations management software, preferably HubSpot.
Excellent experience in data management, including data entry, analysis, and reporting.
Excellent oral and professional writing skills.
Strong time management, prioritization, and project management skills.
Proven success working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Professional demeanor and comfortable supporting C-suite level clients.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required. Degree in business-oriented or statistic-oriented field preferred.
Experience developing, analyzing, and reporting on data required.
Experience with pharmaceutical market preferred.
Experience in marketing, sales, or business development preferred.
Experience with complex, highly technical audiences preferred.
Physical Demands
Majority of work is performed on a personal computer sitting at a desk for long periods of time throughout the day. May be expected to lift boxes up to 25 pounds. Travel 5% of time. Travel to AAPS core meetings and other workshops required. Evening and weekend work required occasionally. Ability to remain professional in stressful and crisis situations is critical.
