REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing & Communications
SALARY RANGE: $62,694 - $73,000 (depending on experience)
SUMMARY:
The Communications Manager is primarily responsible for supporting the Director of Marketing and Communications with the overall functioning of the department and integrated communications efforts. This role is responsible for supporting the company’s external and internal communications and engagement strategies across all platforms, leads projects, and serves as a traffic manager for media and communications internal and external projects. This role is also responsible for setting strategic direction, messaging, and execution for the National Society of Black Engineers’ (NSBE) social media platforms by working with the Communications Zone. This role will perform other job-related duties as assigned by the manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mentors and supports student leadership in fulfilling the organizational mission and goals.
Works closely with NSBE's student leadership and staff to oversee the development and implementation of support materials and services for the Communications Zone in the areas of marketing, communications, public relations, and social media.
Drafts and executes annual marketing and communications programs and campaigns tied to strategic goals and metrics that keep the organization in the forefront of national conversations about STEM.
Contributes to an overall campaign environment for the Marketing and Communications Team through strategic advice and input. Executes strategic, comprehensive, and proactive communications, public relations, and social media campaigns.
Creates resource materials to assist national and regional officers in the areas of marketing, communications, and branding of their activities.
Creates research material to support the CEO (Chapter Executive Officer), National Chair, and Director of Marketing and Communications’ interactions with the media.
Writes and sends out press releases to media and manages media databases.
Responsible for media monitoring, content creation, speaking engagements, talking points, press events and other public relations opportunities.
Keeps the Marketing and Communications department up-to-date on STEM reporters, trends in STEM education and opportunities for NSBE.
Monitors the appearance of NSBE on all media platforms including print, TV, radio, and social media. Coordinates the creation of branded NSBE material.
Helps the team craft strategic presentations for the education of the Society in marketing and communications.
Manages and leverages all social media accounts.
Creates multiple reports for the Marketing and Communications Team, including integrated marketing and communications reports, the WHQ (World Headquarters) Quarterly report, Annual report, and others.
Lead liaison between Marketing and Communications Team, WHQ staff, Boards, and external vendors.
Contributes to new marketing and communication strategies that will elevate the presence of NSBE and increase the overall revenue stream from an advertising
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position may manage the interns for the Marketing and Communications Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be fully vaccinated and will need to provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccination card on the first day of work.
Bachelor's Degree (BA) or equivalent in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field from an accredited university.
Must have four to six years of related experience in the design and execution of communications, public relations, and social media campaigns and activities.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Must have strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations, and negotiating with media.
Experience with overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite and Project Management Software.

TRAVEL
Travel is required to National Convention. Occasional travel to other conferences, chapters, and other industry-related events may be required and assigned by management.
