The Chief People, Learning, & Diversity Officer acts as a strategic leader focused on promoting an inclusive and equitable environment. This position provides leadership on critical talent initiatives that support the Association’s mission and strategic direction; directing a culture of learning by developing a strategy which invests in our employees technical, developmental and leadership capabilities. Responsibilities also include leading and contributing to the evolution of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEI&A) strategy to generate insightful and impactful tactics.
Job responsibilities include:
Delivers an integrated people strategy which connects talent attraction, succession planning, leadership, and professional development and technical training to ensure that our programs and practices encourage and constantly support our staff and our culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Develops and deploys a learning strategy for our staff across the organization ensuring development of strategic and technical capabilities, meeting the current and future needs of the association.
Leads the organization in aligning the diversity and inclusion goals with our strategic objectives. Ensures continued progression to achieve our commitments; making meaningful connections and progress on our inclusive culture, diverse representation, and social impact.
Builds relationships within the organization that are based on trust, transparency, integrity, and credibility. Works to enable all staff to be accountable for our culture.
Manages and administers health and welfare plans including medical, dental, disability and life insurance, and Section 125/129 cafeteria plans. Processes enrollments (new employees and annual open enrollment) and terminations. Ensures plans are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and plan provisions are followed.
Administers the employee 401(k) retirement plan including enrollments and terminations; ensures timely contributions to participant’s accounts in accordance with current regulations. Assists third-party administrator with annual administration of the plan.
Functions as Association’s Privacy Officer to maintain compliance with federal and state laws related to privacy, security, confidentiality, and protection of information resources.
Manages and administers the Association’s risk management insurance including Commercial Liability, Umbrella, Workers’ Compensation, Cyber Liability, and Directors & Officers Liability/Employment Practices Liability /Commercial Crime/Fiduciary Liability policies.
Leads performance evaluation process and compensation reviews. Trains managers on providing feedback and documenting performance.
Analyzes, prepares, and inputs payroll data. Processes payroll through payroll service provider to produce accurate and timely payroll. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
Manages employee relations and grievance problems. Provides advice and counsel to directors/managers regarding personnel practices, policy, and employment laws.
Oversee recordkeeping requirements for job descriptions, personnel files, performance evaluation schedule, etc. Design and maintain all personnel forms. Maintain HR statistics, such as cost per hire, cost of turnover, health care spend rate, and employee engagement.
Develops and provides highly effective orientation program to welcome and integrate new employees into the ALA culture. Develops and coordinates training schedule with hiring manager.
Develops and manages policies and practices relating to all aspect of facilities management including office space allocations, property owner/tenant relations, internal building maintenance, furniture acquisitions, etc.
