The West Volusia Association of REALTORS is seeking a full-time coordinator of Government Affairs. The duties and responsibilities and qualification requirements are as follows:
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Association in formulating an annual plan for interacting with local government officials at the municipality and state level
Organize meetings, screenings with elected officials, while also monitoring local issues that affect the associations members and their businesses.
Organize an annual trip to Tallahassee for members for lobbying purposes, as requested.
Conducts research on how REALTORS can best serve and inform elected officials on issues impacting homeowners and the transaction of real estate.
Cooperation with neighboring Associations to ensure an “All-Hands-On-Deck” approach.
Works with Committee leadership to ensure goals of the committees are met.
Leads the organization in ensuring PAC fundraising goals are met annually.
Supports Calls-to-Action, prepares PAC grants, and prepares communications on a regular basis to inform members of lobbying activities.
DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist members of the association with general inquiries regarding tools, products and services.
Meeting management for several committees including global business, legislative, PAC Fundraising and others as appropriate.
Keeping track through several reporting process, fundraising totals, committee work, and needs assessments to ensure proper budgeting for future events and travel.
Manage several communications/newsletters for member consumption including light web design.
Providing support to the Chief Executive Officer for special projects as assigned.
Provides administrative support to the Associations Global Business Committee.
Other duties as appropriate to the operation of the Association will apply.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
3-5 Years’ Experience in Government Affairs
Excellent Communication Skills, Verbal and Written
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position is full-time from 9:00AM-5:30PM, with the exception occasional evening and weekend activities. Travel out of town once or twice annually for two to four days.
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.

On February 28, 1940, W.V. Gould Sr. was elected President of the DeLand Real Estate Board by the six members who were present. In June of the same year, the President of NAR presented their charter. By 1954 the Board had 21 REALTOR® members and in 1956 they named the first REALTOR® of the Year. In 1963 the Board decided to begin a Multiple Listing system and by 1965 they had 36 members. In 1971 the Board hired Ann Caskey to handle the listings in the MLS at $1.00 per listing. There were 171 listings. In 1976 the first computer based MLS books were printed.
Today, WVAR serves over 1,000 real estate professionals in Volusia County and Central Florida and continues to experience tremendous growth as the West Volusia community continues to be the voice of real estate in West Volusia county.
