The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking a flexible individual to manage the development and review of new and revised content for AAP digital publications, including websites, mobile apps, videos, ebooks, and tool kits. This role is not purely editorial, this hybrid role will include developing new content and expanding digital publications and products. Some tasks include: 1. Work with AAP staff and vendors on the development, updating, and maintenance of content for digital AAP publication platforms. 2. Assist with the development, review, and posting of new content to AAP publications websites as needed. 3. Work with medical editors on the overall management and direction of digital AAP publications. 4. Assist with identifying and developing proposals for new digital publications and products that address the AAP Editorial Plan and that complement and supplement existing product lines. 5. Work with authors, editors, publishers, and other AAP staff to ensure that all AAP editorial content is consistent with recommendations in AAP policy statements, manuals, and other professional and patient education materials. 6. Manage the editorial development and review of print publications, as assigned. 7. Develop and manage editorial schedules for new and revised products. 8. Identify technical reviewers, route materials, and incorporate changes into manuscripts, drafts, and online content, as directed. 9. Investigate, implement, and distribute authoring tools and guidelines. 10. Research and provide appropriate background information and materials to assist in the development of new proposals, products, and publications. 11. Collaborate with AAP Marketing and Sales staff to develop comprehensive marketing programs for new and revised products. 12. Staff and attend committee meetings, editorial meetings, and conferences as assigned. Qualifications needed: 1. Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or communications or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required. Some coursework in science, medicine, and/or health preferred. 2. At least three years’ experience in writing, editing, and/or electronic publishing required. Familiarity with current print and electronic publishing processes and technologies, including working with editors is essential. Experience with professional medical or trade publishing highly desirable. 3. Excellent organizational, communication, editorial, and interpersonal skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, knowledge of electronic editing and authoring tools, and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with virtual meeting platforms (eg WebEx) preferred. Must be detail-oriented, able to handle numerous projects simultaneously, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, and collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and possess strong financial accountability and proficiency.
