The Society for Marketing Professional Services is a nonprofit association that recently initiated a three-year year strategic plan to improve the member experience through our products, services, and 59 affiliated chapters. We are embarking with a renewed effort on our marketing and communications strategies to include increasing member engagement, improving research and analytics to drive insights around member product and service development and marketing, strengthening our voice to advocate for the profession, and implementing our new brand and visual identity platform.
SMPS seeks a diplomatic, energetic, and innovative leader to help steer these changes. Beyond managing and contributing to the day-to-day functions, the successful candidate must express credibility in leadership, defining a vision and translating that into practical reality and implementing it across channels, products, and segments. Professional experiences should include working with multimillion-dollar budgets, leading diverse teams, and having an understanding of business development strategies.
The SMPS team consists of 17 people who support the development and delivery of member products and services. The team is hard-working, committed to the mission and vision of the organization, and endeavors to provide first-class service and experiences to our members. Staff are assigned specific responsibilities, often work independently, and are self-motivating. At the same time, collaboration is essential, and no task is too small or mundane for anyone on our team. The ideal candidate for this job will eagerly contribute to this team environment.
The Vice President of Marketing is responsible for leading the strategies, messages, and materials that promote SMPS, our research Foundation, and their activities. The key responsibilities include developing and executing long- and short-range brand awareness strategies; coordinating with staff across the organization to promote our member products and services; overseeing the development and distribution of social media materials, news releases, and other communications; directing the design, production, and publication of print and online materials, including our bimonthly magazine, reports, and newsletters.
The Vice President reports to the CEO and will work closely with other members of the management team to provide cross-department guidance and contribute to the day-to-day management to support the strategic and annual plans. The Vice President supervises three staff and several consultants and will often liaise with the volunteer governing boards of SMPS and the SMPS Foundation.
