The Santa Clara County Association of REALTORS (SCCAOR) is looking for a Government Affairs Director (GAD). We are looking for someone with a strong policy background and connections to elected officials at the local, state, and federal level. The ideal candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills. This position works in tandem with member led committees.
We believe that home ownership matters and that housing of all kinds is needed to make housing more affordable for all. We are passionate about defending private property rights and ensuring our members have a business friendly environment in which to operate.
Presents SCCAOR's position before City Councils, Board of Supervisors, Planning Commissions, etc.
Oversees SCCAOR's political activities and participation at political events.
Acts as political and community activist for real estate-related issues.
Establishes and maintains political contacts throughout the business, political, community arenas.
Attend candidate fundraisers, community & political meetings during & after business day.
Identifies issues important to organized real estate.
Attends all Board meetings, marketing meetings as needed and provides members with current information on legislation, local ordinances, etc.
Researches, analyzes and prepares reports on proposed, new and/or existing legislation on local, state and national levels.
Reviews city and county agency agendas for real estate pertinent information.
Interacts with NAR & C.A.R. staff on both legislative issues and fiscal responsibilities as it relates to candidates, issues or political events.
Conducts candidate interviews. Sends letters of invitation to candidates, schedules interviews and reviews questions, which should include latest issues that affect real estate interests.
Attends three C.A.R. meetings per year, including organizing an annual Legislative Day of advocacy for our members in Sacramento.
Attends two NAR meetings per year including organizing advocacy meeting with members of Congress in Washington D.C.
Attends all Government Affairs Directors meetings at every conference, and all other sessions pertinent to the position.
Fosters coalitions with community, neighborhood and special interest groups/organizations such as the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County, etc.
Keeps our membership informed on advocacy efforts on their behalf.
Other duties, as assigned by the CEO.
Bachelor degree in political science,communications, public relations, or related field.
