Exceptional opportunity available for a senior association executive with high-level leadership experience in communications, marketing and membership. The brand new role of Senior Vice President, Communications and Member Engagement was created to play a pivotal role in advancing the American Pharmacists Association's vision and strategic plan. Key initial objectives will be the integration of the Association’s marketing, communications and membership functions, execution of a new membership affiliation model, and alignment of the model and member engagement initiatives with the Association’s culture and operations. Reporting to the EVP/CEO and participating on APhA’s senior leadership team, this role offers the potential to have a meaningful impact on the success of the Association, its members and the pharmacy profession as a whole.
Lead centralization of Association-wide marketing, communications and membership functions.
Develop a corporate marketing and communications strategy that is focused on improving performance and revenue growth across all business lines, effective communication to members, external stakeholders and the public, and increasing membership growth and engagement.
Ensure the consistency of branding and messaging across all organization functions and business lines.
Develop and write content for a wide variety of communications vehicles.
Ensure that the ongoing development of APhA’s digital presence aligns with and supports the Association’s affiliation and engagement vision.
Develop an annual public relations and external communication action plan to keep full range of stakeholder groups and constituencies informed of new developments, educated and engaged with APhA.
Represent APhA to high priority coalitions and partnerships.
Define specific member engagement goals in collaboration with senior leadership and Board of Directors, and develop new products, benefits and services to meet goals.
Lead enterprise team in the implementation of new membership affiliation model.
Facilitate the alignment of APhA programs, products and services with the new membership vision and plan.
Lead the alignment of strategic business objectives and operations with the Association’s new affiliation and engagement initiatives, making recommendations for policy and operational changes to improve the overall member experience.
Develop action plan to identify and manage membership-related governance, political, and business challenges.
Develop strategies and oversee operational support for membership groups and communities, both online and off, creating processes, protocols, systems and success measures to ensure outcomes align with both individual and community preferences.
Manage and develop a team of 17 staff in the Membership, Marketing, and Student & New Practitioner Development departments.
Develop budget for membership, marketing and communications, ensuring revenue goals are achieved and operations carried out within budget parameters.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing or communications; master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 15 years’ professional experience in communications, marketing and member engagement.
At least 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role for an individual membership association is essential, with responsibility for communications, marketing and membership functions.
Substantial experience developing strategic plans, creating value propositions and managing revenue budgets of $3 million plus.
Solid track record of success leading, developing and managing staff at all levels to achieve performance objectives.
Proven track record building membership communities and multiple paths for individual and group engagement.
Experience using leading edge communication technologies and CRM systems.
Significant experience managing or serving as a liaison to stakeholder groups.
Solid experience leading complex projects, achieving established goals on time and within budget.
Experience and high level of skill with campaign and crisis communications.

Deep knowledge of membership and engagement models as well as the use of both traditional and cutting-edge customer relationship management tools.
Ability to analyze and identify trends from data and research, particularly as related to engagement, membership and digital performance.
Demonstrated knowledge of digital platforms, services and culture.
Tactful and diplomatic; able to build and maintain constructive, professional relationships and defuse emotionally charged situations.
Ability to maintain composure, maintain work quality and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and in the occasional emergent situation.
Demonstrated track record of personal and organizational achievement with bottom line accountability.
