The American Society of Nephrology (ASN)—which represents more than 17,000 clinicians, researchers, and other health professionals dedicated to leading the fight against kidney disease—seeks a full-time Grant Proposal Specialist to support the society’s development efforts.
The Grant Proposal Specialist will work across departments to prepare, finalize, submit, and follow up industry, foundation, and government grants as assigned. Working with the Vice President of Business Development, the position will identify funding opportunities and work with internal stakeholders to draft proposals, develop budgets, and manage the submission process to secure funding for society programs. The position will process grant reconciliations, maintain records, and provide updates to funders as needed. The position will help generate support for continuing education activities as well as other priorities as assigned, including policy, workforce, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. Experience applying for federal grants is required along with knowledge of the federal grant environment and the different types of sponsoring agencies and their requirements.
Primary responsibilities include:
Facilitate the grants process pre- and post-award.
Monitor, research, and identify funding opportunities for ASN activities.
Interpret complex industry, government, and foundation guidelines and apply them to proposal development.
Work with ASN staff and member committees to draft and organize submissions.
Format submissions to meet funder requirements.
Ensure submission deadlines are met.
Compose non-clinical grant sections of proposals.
Ensure uniform document formatting, and oversee review by necessary stakeholders.
Prepare and revise budgets to meet funder formats.
Gather financial data and submit reconciliations, as required.
Provide support to staff on post-award tasks including reporting, communication and liaison with internal and external departments.
Work with internal staff to ensure all grant compliance obligations are met.
Assume other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.
A minimum of five years grant-writing experience and a high comfort level navigating online grant submission systems.
Exceptional verbal, writing and proofreading skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy
Knowledge of grant budgeting and database management.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of federal compliance regulations, and proficiency in Electronic Subcontracting Reporting System (eSRS) and System Award Management (SAM) desired.
