The American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) is seeking an individual to assist in managing the organization’s professional development programs and events. This individual will be the primary professional staff partner to the Associates and Voyagers programs. This individual will also be responsible for assisting in the support of the NexUS and Fellows communities.
The ideal candidate will have 3 – 5 years’ experience in meetings and events planning as well as an understanding of effective program execution. Experience in the professional development/ education domain and an understanding of effective program marketing is highly desirable. The Manager of Professional Development will report to the Associate Director of Professional Development and Education, who oversees the professional development and education areas and provides primary support to the ACT-IAC Academy, the Partners program and Fellows (graduate) community. Both professional development staff members work closely with volunteer leaders to successfully plan and execute meeting and training events that fulfill the professional development objectives of each program curriculum. Additional duties include assisting with logistics and execution of other ACT-IAC activities, including premier ACT-IAC conferences, as assigned. Duties include some evening and weekend requirements. This is a full-time position, available immediately.
Program Overview: ACT-IAC provides three of the most valuable and highly respected professional development programs in the government IT community. Graduates from these programs are uniquely qualified to advance to the next stage in their career. These professional development programs are only open to members of ACT-IAC. These programs are:
ACT-IAC Associates program - Prepares entry-level professionals (five years or less experience) for their future roles as leaders in government and industry. Each candidate must be recommended by an executive in his or her respective company or agency.
ACT-IAC Voyagers Program - A leadership development program for "rising stars" in government and industry with high potential for future advancement. This program is intended for individuals in government and industry at the GS-11/13 and equivalent industry level.
ACT-IAC Partners Program - The flagship higher-ranking development program created for senior leaders in government and industry (GS-15 and industry equivalent) who are committed to improving government through the application of technology.
ACT-IAC Fellows Community – The Fellows community is an ongoing ACT-IAC PD alumni community consisting of over 850 individuals who have gone through the Voyagers and Partners programs.
In addition, the ACT-IAC NexUS Community is supported by the professional development staff. This is a membership community of ACT-IAC consisting of emerging leaders in the government IT community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide exceptional service and support to ACT-IAC members and program participants;
Work collaboratively with committee leads and other members to achieve program objectives, both strategic and logistical;
Act as staff partner and knowledge expert with respect to professional development program(s);
Act as a logistics specialist for professional development activities, providing full life-cycle event planning expertise;
Manage the program application process including logistical support for meetings, events, and selection committees;
Responsible for communications between participants, vendors and leadership teams, to include email traffic, conference and audio/video participation, and in-person interactions;
Attend and facilitate all assigned professional development events (2 - 3 per month), to include travel to 2 off-sites per year located within driving distance of Washington, DC metropolitan area;
Update and manage ACT-IAC website for assigned professional development area;
Enter and retrieve data from the ACT-IAC AMS system (Avectra netFORUM) and website;
Maintain standard operating procedures for professional development programs;
Provide all administrative support necessary to the program including managing registrations, preparing nametags, email correspondence, copying materials, preparing notebooks and other duties as needed;
Maintain updated marketing materials and explore ways to enhance current marketing materials for professional development programs;
Invoice and track payment for professional development programs;
Manage all program budgets, adhere to set costs, and own responsibility for the allocation of funds;
Manage and administer professional certification unit process (CEUs/PDUs, etc)
Support ACT-IAC organizational initiatives as required, including support of major conference. Able to travel once per year year to annual conference located within driving distance of Washington, DC metropolitan area;
Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Requirements:
Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience relevant to the requirements of this position, with a particular emphasis on events planning and marketing. Experience within the professional development/education domain a plus;
Must possess initiative and ability to get the job done with little direct supervision;
Experience working with membership associations strongly preferred;
Experience with Association Management Software or other AMS database system (Avectra netFORUM) strongly preferred;
Must demonstrate thorough working and application knowledge of Microsoft Office business suite;
Must possess a strong customer service orientation and the interpersonal skills to communicate comfortably, courteously, tactfully and effectively with a broad spectrum of professionals. Must enjoy meeting with people, networking and developing strong relationships;
Must be able to foster a cooperative work environment with ability to motivate other staff and volunteers to work towards common goals and objectives;
Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, professionalism and willingness to take on new tasks in order to help ACT-IAC reach its goals and mission;
Must demonstrate strong business writing skills and acute attention to detail;
Must be able to think creatively and “outside of the box”;
Must be able to multi-task and adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment, is energized by challenge and learning new things;
Must be able to handle conflict resolutions in a professional manner;
Must be a team player and able to motivate other staff and volunteers to work towards common goals and objectives;
