WCMS is a non-profit organization that promotes the interests and values of physicians and public health and advocacy in Washtenaw County. The Executive Council of the Washtenaw County Medical Society (WCMS) is in search of an Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities of the WCMS Executive Director include by not limited to:
Operations – provide operational support to the Executive Council in order to deliver maximum membership value to the WCMS and its membership.
Leadership – provide support to the WCMS executive officers, Executive Council, and membership in order to achieve organizational and financial goals. Provide clear and consistent leadership for current and future WCMS initiatives.
Fiscal Management –Maintain the financial integrity of the organization by aligning the annual operating budget with the board’s strategic goals and objectives. Communicate clearly with WCMS Executive Council on all fiscal matters. Work cooperatively with external accounting firm in order to complete annual financial reviews in a timely manner.
Board and Committee Relationships – The WCMS Executive Director serves as the principal staff representative to the WCMS Executive Council and committees, and coordinates with the Board President in the development of the monthly Board agendas as well as all evening general session meetings.
Communication–Maintain relationships with state and county leaders and collaborate with them regarding existing and emerging health care and public health initiatives. Assist WCMS Executive Council in any public communications including press releases, editorials, and articles.
Marketing-With the Executive Council and/or its committees, develop the website and its content, all WCMS print, social media, and other electronic communications. Create marketing materials in collaboration with WCMS committees/leadership to support WCMS membership recruitment and retention, legislative advocacy, and events.
Advocacy – represent the Washtenaw community on issues impacting the practice of medicine, patient well-being and public health. Coordinate with the Michigan State Medical Society on all state issues. Represent WCMS’s mission at public events.
The search for the Executive Director of the Washtenaw County Medical Society is being conducted by the Executive Director Search Committee, Washtenaw County Medical Society, 5 Research Dr., Suite C, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

The following skills and requirements for the Executive Director position at WCMS are: •Professional and operations management experience •A minimum of 5 years of senior-level experience in association management •Experience in nonprofit/membership organizations preferred •Possess a record of successful administration, event management, and leadership facilitation •Demonstrated leadership skills – ability to convey organizational vision and enlist broad internal and external support to execute that vision •Strong personal characteristics – the future WCMS Executive Director must demonstrate integrity, honesty, and a genuine approachability •Outstanding communication skills – excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Additionally, the successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to various media sources •Collaborative management style – the successful candidate will have a track record of a strong participative approach to management •Have the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
