The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is seeking a Director, IT Operations and Project Management who will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the AIAA Information Technology department and ensure the proper implementation of AIAA technology strategy as defined by the Managing Director, Information Technology. Following the strategic vision set by the Managing Director, Information Technology, in concert with the Leadership Team, this person will ensure all core AIAA enterprise business applications are available, optimized, and properly integrated.
The Director, IT Operations and Project Management will contribute to the success of AIAA by providing hands-on leadership within the IT team; leadership that implements a new philosophy of IT that is focused on cloud, agility, and customer service.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Broadly, the Director will be responsible for the following:
IT operational availability
Optimization of technical resources
Implementation of security standards
More specifically, the Director will be responsible for the following:
Ensuring the 24/7 operational availability of all AIAA IT assets, both those used by staff and those used by customers. Working with his/her team, the Director will ensure all systems are properly maintained and operational.
Protecting the technical assets of the organization in the case of disaster or crisis. Responsible for ensuring data is available from any place at any time and is properly backed-up or replicated in a manner so that data is not lost or otherwise unavailable.
Optimizing the use of current and future technical resources to ensure greatest ROI for the organization.
Working with his/her team to ensure applications are properly implemented and deployed in the manner expected by the customer.
Managing the day-to-day relationship with AIAA vendors working either directly with IT or via other departments to ensure IT project success.
Managing the direct costs of support in terms of outside resources used to assist with the IT aspects of AIAA business applications
Managing the project portfolio of AIAA business applications and working with the Managing Director, Information Technology to develop and manage a product use lifecycle for the organization.
Overseeing and leading, when needed, the project management aspect of all AIAA IT initiatives assigned.
Managing the technical aspects of the AIAA data warehouse, guiding the Data Analyst in use of data warehouse for AIAA business intelligence and data mining initiatives.
Implementing AIAA IT security standards as directed by the Managing Director, IT. This includes regular audits of systems as well as meeting various compliance standards.
Reports to the Managing Director, Information Technology
Supervises System & Network Administrator, Data Analyst, and Business Analyst & Administrator
Works with internal AIAA product teams to support the implementation and integration of new software tools
Manages IT-related vendor and partner relationships and consultants
Presents ideas to staff and members at all levels in business-friendly and user-friendly language
Brings a sense of ownership – willing to take responsibility and take part in the give and take of senior management processes
Provides education and training as necessary to IT staff and employees
Participates effectively and motivates others in support of a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
7+ years working with information technology
3+ years’ experience managing IT projects
3+ years’ experience managing employees
Demonstrated knowledge of current computer networking industry standards and trends.
Experience with Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure/Office365 a plus
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or other “hard science” discipline (such as math, chemistry, physics); or a general college degree in combination with at least 10 years of direct work in Information Technology;
