Provides primary staff support in the overall planning, implementation and evaluation of the Society’s Annual Cancer Symposium and other education activities under the Assistant Director, Education and Meetings. Provides meeting logistical and marketing support as needed. In this role, the assistant manager is expected to work to automate many of the processes involved in the management of these programs and to develop or streamline the policies and procedures needed for their effective management.
Annual Cancer Symposium
Works with the Assistant Director, Education and Meetings to implement the SSO Annual Cancer Symposium. Specific responsibilities include:
Supporting the Scientific Program Committee, including monthly calls.
Manage and execute the processes and work plan development for SSO Scientific Programs. Startup processes will include document preparation, work plan development, faculty budget development, etc.
Handles programmatic planning and management components relative to preparation of the Society’s Annual Meeting, including collection and maintenance of planning documents for sessions occurring at Annual Cancer Symposium.
Communicates logistical details and arrangements with all specially-invited lecturers (ACS Basic Science Lecture, John Wayne Clinical Research Lecture, James Ewing Lecture).
Provides administrative support for the efforts of the Scientific Program and other Committees as applicable in the planning and implementation for all pre-meeting workshops offered in conjunction with the Annual Meeting.
Acts as the primary liaison for faculty, moderators, and Global Partner Poster presenters; manage communications and speaker logistics leading up to, during, and after the event. This includes working in conjunction with our vendors on AV information, faculty travel, the setup and management of audience response systems, and virtual meeting.
Assists with assembly of copy for the preliminary and final programs. Supports marketing strategies as appropriate.
Assist in the procurement of grant funding, including submitting funding and/or equipment requests as needed.

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
A minimum of 3-5 years of education program management experience in medical or health care association management.
A professional presence and well-rounded knowledge of health care and organized medicine.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills. Ability to work accurately and productively with administrative tools and equipment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Highly organized with strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
Willingness to travel to Annual Meeting to provide support as assigned.
