The Illinois Funeral Directors Association has an opportunity for a Communications Specialist to join our team full-time. This role will help shape IFDA’s presence and inspire our community to solve some of our toughest challenges. You must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, solid communication skills (both written and oral), be self-motivated, well-organized and work well both independently and with others in a team. You will work closely with the Executive Director to deliver a consistent, identifiable and positive public image to internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of practical related work experience.
You will: •Develop, implement and oversee an integrated organization-wide strategic communication plan to broaden awareness of and strengthen brand identity across key stakeholder audiences.
•Manage, assess and optimize the performance and effectiveness of all marketing and communications programs. Manage communication vehicles to create awareness and momentum of and about the association. Manage the development, distribution and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including but not limited to newsletters, brochures, special notices and website.
•Coordinate and maintain IFDA’s website. Ensure information is posted in a timely manner including creating event pages, uploading information to resource libraries, minor edits and updates to pages as needed.
•Manage relationships with any communications-related vendor or consultants.
•Curate content and increase audience engagement on social media channels.
•Coordinate with fellow staff in planning and staffing statewide continuing education and other programs. This may or may not include site selection, contract negotiation, food & beverage, speaker coordination, onsite details, marketing brochures, continuing education information, record maintenance and mailings.
•Promote and maintain association Career Center.
•Develop short and long-term strategies to increase membership, advertising and sponsorship.
•Develop a strategy for product pricing (advertising, exhibit and sponsorship) based on the market demand.
•Recommend, develop and implement enhancements to member value proposition, including affinity programs.
•Serve as in-house computer network administrator, selecting programs for the office. Work with IT administrator to troubleshoot computer problems and keep the computer system up-to-date.
•Serve as a point person for all publications.
•Create and cultivate partnerships with corporations, civic organizations, colleges, regulatory agencies and other groups in order to recruit members and educate the public.
•Negotiate strategic relationships with industry alliances.

You have proven experience cultivating relationships and see the “big picture.” You have innovative ideas for membership growth and excellent writing skills. Planning, prioritizing and problem-solving skills are high on your list along with collaboration and being positive. You have a minimum of 5 years related work experience in writing, PR, marketing, association management or a related role. You’re proactive and organized but comfortable with ambiguity and aren’t afraid when things get a little messy. You prioritize well and are able to manage multiple projects at once. You’re passionate about tackling some tough challenges and excited about the role you can play in solving them. You have fluid experience working with Microsoft products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher). You are familiar with AMS systems (preferably YourMembership). You are familiar with social media and know how to manage it. You have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, marketing, communications or nonprofit management and 5 years of practical related work experience.
Additional Salary Information: $40,000 salary based on experience. Knowledge of the funeral profession considered an advantage.
