This is a professional position working in partnership with the Managing Director of Strategic Communications to draft superior executive communications that integrate organizational positioning and objectives with an emphasis on the needs of the AIA membership and the profession of architecture.
Draft communications for various audiences using different communication vehicles, i.e. speeches/presentations/talking points, blogs, opinion editorials, executive and board messages, internal memos and some copywriting for marketing materials.
Consult and develop communications strategies and messaging platforms for internal and external audiences.
Revise communications for further use among key audiences.
Consult with all levels of management and staff within the organization regarding communication issues and concerns. Provide recommendations for best course of action.
Coordinate with divisions and cross-functional teams to adapt core messaging with key initiatives across the organization.
Assists in the development of communication materials for members, employees and external audiences.
Collaborate with Public and Media Affairs, Brand & Creative and other divisions as necessary, to align messages across channels.

Requires analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to prioritize, plan, and carry out responsibilities independently.
Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field, masters degree preferred with a minimum of 7+ years relevant experience (i.e. journalism, agency, consultancy, corporate communications, member organization. Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
