Responsible for the Development, Management, Supervision and Operations of all AWS Conferences and Special Events relating to Education Services Department.

Proven experience in event and project management, team building and personnel management.
Ability to follow direction, supervise and manage multiple projects, including producing high quality work under tight deadlines, working independently and as a team while making decisions based on general guidelines.
Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
Must be able to identify areas of weakness in process management and implement improvement for optimal team performance.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comfort with email and telephone communications is essential to effectively interact with training & administrative personnel, contractors, and co-workers in a virtual environment. Able to work with people from a variety of knowledge levels, personalities and economic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to interact successfully with academic as well as business and regulatory personnel.
Superior presentation and writing skills.
Event management of room set-ups, A/V, catering, and contractor coordination and contract management.
The operating environment has extensive weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual performance targets to be met and requires strict adherence to all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Collaborate with others to ensure speakers receive proper communication and complete program logistics
Coordinate conference calls with speakers to ensure overall speaker understands goals and objectives of the conference and prepares accordingly
Collect speaker presentations and material for onsite use
Update event web sites
Edit/Proof outgoing communications including web site, brochures, and promotional emails
Collect, record and report session evaluations
Identify and recruit speakers for multiple conference programs
Manage the speaker invitation process to keep communications clear and ongoing and secure a quick closure
Serve as the main point of contact for speaker requirements, to include handling audio visual requirement and general speaker inquires. Communicate information effectively and timely to speakers and attendees.
Serve as a liaison between the Standards Development Department and Conferences area.
Answer customer service inquiries related to conferences and events
Serve as Secretary to the Conference Committee
Responsible for conference and event program profit and loss reporting
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in event planning, ideally in the non-profit sector
Some fluency in non-profit membership associations preferred
Strong project-management skills, including being detail-oriented and managing toward aggressive timelines.
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to manage and build trust with diverse stakeholders
Track record of demonstrating sound judgment by making appropriate decisions, knowing when to take the initiative to anticipate problems and innovate creative solutions, and prioritizing and completing tasks in a skillful and timely fashion
Collaborative, team player with flexibility and a sense of humor
Passion for AWS’s mission and a strong commitment to AWS’s core values: Advancing the science, technology, and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes worldwide.
Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications; experience creating well-formatted, professional documents in Word and PowerPoint
Strong commitment to learning and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as necessary
A BS degree preferred but not necessary if candidate has related conference services experience
Have a least 2 years of hotel or conference center experience
Basic understanding of AV equipment
Ability to lift / move conference tables and chairs; equipment
Keep abreast of industry trends, share information with all staff
Superior quantitative, oral and written communications and problem-solving/strategizing skills
Excellent overall computer skills with advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
Proactive mindset to anticipate and support changes in our business
