The Business Development Manager is responsible for developing business for our nationâ€™s capital as a meeting/convention destination. This position will identify business opportunities with potential prospects increasing company revenue to enhance performance goals. This position will also engage with our hotel community on creative ideas to generate effective hotel packages.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)
Identify, research, and prospect target accounts to uncover additional business opportunities for the city.
Follow up on lead sources via inquiry, trade shows and trade publications.
Prepare and give business reviews and presentations to the senior management team on a monthly basis.Â
Maintain thorough product knowledge of the destination including the general area, convention center, hotels, and services.
Work with external partners on creative ways to increase business opportunities
Maintain awareness of industry trends
Execute all other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Sales, Director of Convention Sales, and Vice-President of Convention Sales & Services.
Track prospecting efforts
Other duties as assigned
Experience, Competencies & Education
Minimum one to two (1-2) years sales experience in related field, preferably convention bureau, facility or hotel sales and convention services
Bachelorâ€™s Degree (B.S. /B.A.) from four-year college or university in management, sales, marketing or related field.
Ability to read, analyzes, articulate and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals Â Â Â Â Â and technical procedures.Â
Excellent communication skills.
Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for city and facilities
Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and destination management software systems required.
Accountabilities & Measures
Success will be measured by increased booking opportunities in the destination.
Periodic performance evaluations gauging quantitative and qualitative performance against identified goals.
