TITLE: Executive Director of the Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA) and Tennessee Nurses Foundation (TNF)
CLASSIFICATION: Executive Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate education required. Candidates will demonstrate strong skills in fiscal management, resource development and maintenance, agency and program planning, and public relations. Association and/or Healthcare experience preferred.
SUMMARY: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer and is responsible to the TNA and TNF Board of Directors for the effective conduct of the affairs of the Association as demonstrated by the following core functions.
I.Leadership and Management
1.) Reports to the Board of Directors of TNA and TNF.
•Serves as liaison between Board of Directors, committee chairs, district association presidents, and the general membership.
•Establishes the organizational structure for TNA and TNF in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
•Attends Board of Directors meeting for TNA and TNF
2.) Manages the TNA staff.
•Recruits, hires, trains and terminates TNA staff and administers an effective personnel program, including position descriptions, performance standards, performance appraisals (oral and written), staff development and compensation.
•Manages contractual TNA staff agreements.
•Ensures professional and clerical staff support for all TNA committees.
•Establishes and implements administrative policies and procedures for TNA staff within the framework of Association policy.
II.Financial and Legal
1.)Preserves the fiscal and legal integrity of the Association
2.)Manages the finances of the Association that includes preparing and implementing the annual budget and long-range forecasting of staff, equipment and program needs.
3.)Approves all purchasing of equipment and supplies within the framework of the annual budget approved by the Board of Directors.
4.)Submits quarterly financial reports according to common fiduciary and regulatory standards.
1.)Administers an effective internal and external public relations program that is responsive to the needs of the membership.
2.)Oversees & monitors all media communications – both social media and public speaking engagements
3.)Approves all written public relations material printed by the Association
4.)Serves as executive editor of the Tennessee Nurse.
IV.Advocacy and Engagement (Public Awareness)
1.)Assists the Board of Directors to implement the resolutions, policy, statements and goals, set forth by the TNA Membership Assembly and the Board of Directors.
2.)Administers effective government affairs and political action programs to represent the interests of the membership through TNA lobbying efforts.
3.)Cultivates appropriate relationships with other associations, health care agencies and public service organizations to enhance the image of the association and attain its objectives.
4.)Develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders
V.Membership and Development
1.) Manages an effective program of membership marketing, member services and member benefits.
2.) Oversees and ensures effective professional development programs consistent with the objectives of the Association
3.) Manages the annual conference that includes programs, exhibits, continuing education offerings
4.) Directs the Legislative summit annually
5.)Directs the Continuing Education Approval Unit and Provider Unit programs.

The Tennessee Nurses Association exists to promote and protect the registered nurse and to advance the practice of nursing in order to assure a healthier Tennessee. The Tennessee Nurse Foundation exists to support programs that meet the special needs of TNA members and other nurses in Tennessee. The Executive Director is a representative of the TNA/TNF mission, vision and goals to the public, community partners, legislators and membership.
